LECTURE DETAILS
In November last year, the United Nations (UN) reported that North Korea was training its most talented young IT talents to become elite cryptocurrency hackers. The cybersecurity capabilities of the North Korean government are certainly more advanced than before and thus should not be underestimated.
Recognizing the seriousness of these issues, the Korean government decided to train highly qualified cyber warriors since 2011. One of their biggest hubs is the cyber defense department installed at Korea University. With full scholarships, the best professors, facilities, curriculum and diverse benefits, students trained at The Department of Cyber Defense at Korea University are considered to be the top 1% cyber security officers in the state, with a goal of being the front line in protecting Korea from cyber terrors and cyber wars.
In the last decade of the Department of Cyber Defense, it became one of the most popular departments and has achieved several achievements, including two wins at the DEFCON CTF (DEFKOR in 2015 & DEFKOROOT in 2018).
In his Keynote, Prof. Seungjoo will take a look at the HRD policies that the South Korean government has pursued to cultivate cyber warriors, and will closely examine the effects, advantages and disadvantages of these policies over the last decade.
